When it comes to a resume, one of the most important parts is your employment history. If a previous job sounds boring to you or you think it wouldn’t be of interest to a hiring manager, don’t disregard it. It counts as work experience and shows a potential employer that you can handle responsibility. And if you think a job you had sounds uninteresting or seems outdated you might just need to list it by another name.

While submitting resumes, I have only one word of advice; Exaggerate! Exaggerate your experience to the point of being acceptable. Don’t outright lie about what your experience is in any one thing, rather, smooth the whole process over with generalities. For example, if you are a retail manager and have experience in that field, but you are applying for a Inventory Manager position, rewrite your resume to include and expand on duties towards inventory that you were involved in. Include phrases such as “spear headed perpetual inventory assignments and scheduling” even if all you did was inventory a small section, or product. Other phrases like, “investigated inventory misplacement using loss prevention techniques” even if all you did was find misplaced items stocked in another area.

In essence, you are not lying, you do know something about the job that you are applying for, its just that you are showcasing your abilities, and strengthening your weaknesses so to speak.
When you get to the interview, stay positive, be alert and aware of your body language. Dress well, even a cut above the position’s need. Lean forward, smile, be polite, and for Pete’s sake, turn your phone off, not on vibrate, completely off. Remember, a phone call from a possible employer is your cue to be “on”. Sit up straight, smile while you’re talking on the phone to affect your manner, and be polite.
